What is this session about?
For years, steering traffic through a Network Virtual Appliance in Azure required User Defined Routes, load balancers, and careful attention to route propagation order. The Azure Virtual Network Routing Appliance (AVNA) changes this model by introducing a native, SDN-level mechanism for routing traffic through an NVA without the fragility of manual UDR management.
In this session, we will cover:
In this session, we will cover:
- Why the old UDR-based NVA model breaks down at scale and in hub-and-spoke topologies
- What AVNA is: how it integrates with the Azure SDN fabric at the control plane level
- Route propagation with AVNA: how routes are learned, distributed, and prioritized across peered VNets
- Supported NVA scenarios: active-active, active-passive, and zone-redundant deployments
- Integration with Azure Route Server and how AVNA simplifies BGP-based routing architectures
- Current limitations, supported regions, and what to watch for in enterprise deployments
